‘Saad’s Olive Tree’ to vie at Mena filmfest

Iranian short film ‘Saad’s Olive Tree’ is to vie at the Mena Int'l Film Festival in the Netherlands.

Iranian short film ‘Saad’s Olive Tree’ is scheduled to vie at the Mena International Film Festival in the Netherlands.

The short, directed by Ahmed Zayeri, will be screened at the short film competition section of the 2021 edition of the event.

‘Saad’s Olive Tree’ narrates the story of a young boy, Saad, who is in love with football. Saad loses his eyes during a Daesh attack on Syria. Since then, he locks himself up at home and stops playing his favorite game and visiting his favorite olive tree. 

The flick has received several accolades worldwide, including the second prize for best director and the jury’s special mention for best film at the 14th Manchester Int’l Short Film Festival, Kinofilm Festival in the UK as well as the best short film award the 14th Kazan Int’l Festival of Muslim Cinema in Tatarstan.

According to the official website of the event, the Mena Film Festival The Hague, “aims to portray a contemporary view of the cultural, political, social and artistic attributes of West Asia and Northern Africa through the eyes of filmmakers from these regions.”

The 4th edition of the festival is slated for May 20-22, 2021.
